Cool & Contemporary England at the citizenM Tower of London

CitizenM Tower of London lounge

With a successful blend of ultra cool design, first-class amenities, eclectic collection of English memorabilia and location next to some of the city’s oldest monuments, the citizenM latest hotel at the Tower of London is the perfect base for a very British weekend in London. Having experienced both their Paris CDG and citizenM Times Square branches, I was eager to experience their newest edition, and I was certainly not disappointed! Come on a virtual tour of this hip hotel with me below and experience a “very British” romantic weekend in London in our new mini-guide.

A Tower Next to the Tower

With now 12 hotels in seven different cities on three different continents (and two others in London), the citizenM aims to provide an affordable luxury option for modern travelers not seeking the glitz and pomp usually associated with luxury hotels. Of course one of the coolest parts about this brand new citizenM is its location, right across from one of the great symbols of London: the formidable 11th century Tower of London. Pay a little extra and you can gaze at the spectacular tower from your bed. However, in keeping with the democratic spirit of the citizenM, all guests can admire the stunning views from its guests only 7th and 8th story CloudM Bar, an amazing place to work during the day or enjoy a sparkling toast to your London holiday with the backdrop of most of the east and south of the city.

The hotel is also within walking distances of sites around The City, Saint Paul’s Cathedral, the South Bank and Tate Modern and it has a tube stop right in front of it for easy access to the rest of London.

A Contemporary Ode to All Things British

But its great location isn’t all that the hotel has going for it, it exudes British appeal in a fun and modern way. As soon as you walk into the ground floor lounge you are met with the citizenM’s trademark vast open space, a living room of sorts for guests and non guests of the hotel. Next to designer chairs and lamps and commissioned art, you’ve got a cool hodgepodge of British paraphernalia: red letterboxes, the famous black cab, street signs and nods to the royals. It all creates a fun vibe to add to your overall London experience.

Compact, Comfy Rooms

This location’s guest rooms are virtually identical to what you can find in their other hotels: well-designed, sleek yet very comfortable. Since you’re meant to be either out exploring the city or enjoying the hotel’s various inviting common areas, the rooms are for sleeping… or pillow talk in their huge kingsized beds. You’re personally greeted on your TV screen which is controlled as well as the music, lighting, blinds and blackout shades via a iPad. The rain shower is definitely enjoyable after a long day walking around town.

This branch of the citizenM is perfect for a central location embodying a fun British spirit and an excellent match for my “very British” romantic weekend in London itinerary. They also have a South Bank hotel and one in Shoreditch, a great fit for those looking to hang with the hipsters of the East End.

Further information, news and room booking can be done on the citizenM Tower of London’s site hereTheir rates can vary depending on the day of the week and due to special offers for those who sign up as “citizens,” however, they tend to range from about 1oo to 200 pounds (at the time of publication). You might also find discounted rates on their Agoda Page.
