What and Where to Eat in Thailand

Thailand is one of my favorite countries to visit and a highlight every time is enjoying delicious Thai cuisine. From Thai street food to more refined Thai restaurants, if you are planning for a vacation to Thailand, don’t miss to eat the following meals at these great restaurants in Thailand.

Chiang Rai Nam Ngeow

If you want the best of the Northern Thai cuisine, then make your way to Chiang Rai Nam Ngeow. Conveniently located in Singhaklai road near King Mengrai’s monument, this food stand  serves amazing, with a focus on noodles and at excellent prices. We recommend their delicious Khao Kriep Pak Mo, Khao Soy, and Kanom Jeen Nam Ngeow, so good it might be one of the best meals you have your whole trip!

Phu Lae

Also in Chiang Rai, this is one of the best restaurants for Northern and central Thai food. Found on Thanalai Road in Wiang,  the restaurant’s signature dish is Pon Yang Kham, a beef dish made of high quality meat coming from a local cooperative. Since it’s a sit down restaurant, you’ll be able to have a more relaxing experience than the above eatery, yet the prices are still very reasonable.

Lee Ocha

Another Chaing Rai favorite, this small local venue offers some of the best Chinese food you can find in Thailand. There is actually a high population of Chinese people living in Thailand, and this particular restaurant has been in business for over thirty years earning them an excellent local reputation. You can enjoy a vast feast by choosing the banquet menu, alternatively the  crispy whole chicken, the hotpot and the steamed freshwater goby are particularly noteworthy

Krua Baan U-Thong

Many visitors to Thailand include a visit to Ayutthaya, the former capital of the Kingdom of Siam and home to amazing historic monuments. While here you can have an excellent seafood meal at this classy venue serving traditional Thai dishes with a contemporary twist. Plus since it’s located right on the river, guests can savor their delicious meals and incredible views!

Patara

It’s quite easy to eat as a vegetarian in Thailand as many dishes can be easily adapted. That said these can have some fish sauce in them. You can eat worry free at this great vegetarian restaurant. Within an attractive setting, it offers several gastronomic menus as well as a wide array of à la carte options including your favorite Thai curries and noodle dishes, all beautifully presented.

My Secret

If you happen to be visiting Kanchanaburi in the west of Thailand, be sure to stop in at this reputable restaurant. With a lovely setting on the river, this chic restaurant serves a mix of both international and Thai meals at reasonable prices considering the high quality. The spicy herb chicken curry is a must!

Getting Around Thailand

An excellent way to reach these delicious restaurants, and see the cultural treasures of the country, is by car. A car rental in Thailand offers you flexibility and the ability to access some these harder to reach destinations. No matter how you get there, you’ll certainly have a tasty time in Thailand!
