After a long day of sightseeing in sizzling hot Athens, you can continue admiring the city by grabbing a drink on the rooftop terrace, or better yet, from your own balcony if you stay at the sleek 5-star St. George Lycabettus Lifestyle Hotel. Situated in the posh Kolonaki district and on the highest hill of the city, the award-winning hotel showcases soaring views of Athens, the Acropolis and all the way to sea. Fall in love with these views and style of this alluring luxury hotel below.
A Luxurious Modern Base Overlooking Amazing Athens
Flanking the wooded slopes of Lycabettus Hill and overlooking the rooftops of the city and its world-class monuments, few hotels in Athens can boast as prominent a position as the St. George Lycabettus Lifestyle Hotel. Its exception location helped led the St George win the Best Rooftop View Hotel at World Luxury Hotel Awards 2017. Just below the hotel is the stylish Kolonaki, home to chic boutiques, art galleries and restaurants. It’s also within easy reach of Athen’s main sites and top museums, including the Cycladic Art Museum and the Benaki Museum, which are a short walk away.
One of Athens’ Best Rooftop Terrace
Encased in floor-to-ceiling glass, the hotel’s rooftop facilities feature a 180-panorama of the city. This is home to the hotel’s two dining facilities; the La Suite Lounge and Le Grand Balcon restaurant, also open to non-guests. Come for sunset cocktail hour and you might be tempted to stay for dinner. The restaurants refined Greek and international dishes go perfectly with local Greek wines and a backdrop of the Acropolis and twinkling city lights.
Luxurious Amenities & Original Flare
As you enter the attractive lobby you’ll see creative nods to Greek art and history. This fostering of the arts is also illustrated with the SG Gallery, a exhibition space found on the ground floor which displays the work of both local and foreign artists. However, if cinema is your preferred art form, then you can take in a film in the hotel’s 30-seat screening room.
For some relaxation and pampering, the hotel’s rooftop hosts a fabulous infinity pool and a lounge area decked out in wildflowers and comfy seating. Here you’ll also find the Aegeos Spa where guests can arrange some exquisite treatments including couples’ massage under a romantic canvas pavilion. If you’re staying on a Monday you can enjoy a weekly BBQ or during the month of September there are yoga classes at sunset. Walking around Athens is a workout in itself, but if you’d like to keep up your workout routine, the hotel has a well-equipped fitness space.
Stylish Rooms with Exceptional Views
Due to its privileged hilltop placement, many of the hotel’s 154 guest rooms and 15 suites have panoramic views of the city. The ones that don’t, like the Courtyard Atrium Rooms, still have plenty of natural light thanks to large windows. All rooms are stylishly decorated with contemporary furnishings and accents of color. We stayed in a lovely ECO Chic category room which have private balconies overlooking the city. These are well equipped with COCO-MAT natural sleep system bedding and white linens, satellite TV, air-conditioning, a fully-stocked mini bar, tea and coffee making facilities, WIFI and luxurious bathrooms.
I have to admit, we were totally won over by the awe-inspiring views, but also with the warm, professional staff, delicious breakfast (complete with Greek delicacies) and exquisite pool area. We almost didn’t want to leave for the islands! The St. George Lycabettus Lifestyle Hotel is a great option for a 5-star hotel in a real Athenian neighborhood and with good value prices considering the quality.
Rooms start at 108 euros by booking directly through the hotel. See full offers, rates and information on their website here.
