If you’re planning a romantic getaway to Mallorca, I highly recommend exploring beyond the capital of Palma. The north of the country is particularly romantic thanks to the stunning Sierra de Tramuntana mountain range, which is dotted with charming villages and towns. In the heart of this is the town of Sóller, where you can find the Gran Hotel Sóller, a beautiful boutique hotel and spa set in a grand historic building. With a verdant garden, rooftop pool, indoor pool and spa and chic restaurant, it makes for an ideal base for a romantic stay in the north of Mallorca. Enter its doors with us below!
History & Elegant in North Mallorca
Around an hour drive from Palma, Sóller can also be reached by historic train. A lovely town, it’s conveniently a short drive from many of Mallorca’s most attractive towns, like Deià, Valldemossa and Fornalutx. Unlike some of the other towns, Sóller also has the advantage of having a port, which you can reach via the old fashioned tram from Sóller town. Both have a good variety of restaurants and cafés to facilitate your stay.
The Gran Hotel Sóller is located in one of the most famous buildings in the town. It dates back to the 19th century and was designed by the renowned architect Joaquín Pavía Birmingham, also responsible for the Palace of the Diputación de Mallorca and some extension works done on the Palma Cathedral. The building was wonderfully renovated and transformed into a 5-star hotel.
5-Star Amenities, Spa & Rooftop Pool
Enter the property’s gates and you’ll be greeted with the regal palace-like building surrounded by a garden oasis with outdoor seating. Inside you’ll note some beautifully restored hand carved woodwork which adds an element of glamour. The stylish lounge, with its grand piano, red sofas and armchairs, augments this alluring ambiance. It’s incredibly luminous thanks to the adjacent atrium, where the hotel’s restaurant, Ca’n Blau, is found. It the evenings its low lighting makes it perfect for a romantic dinner.
Snacks and drinks can be enjoyed at the bar found next to the hotel’s gorgeous rooftop terrace. It has a lovely infinity pool overlooking the valley, especially enchanting at sunset. If you’d rather pamper yourselves indoors, make your way to the hotel’s spa. It has a large heated pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and well equipped gym. The spa is also open to on-guests for a fee of 20 euros/person.
Stylish & Bright Guest Rooms
Further views can be enjoyed in some of the Gran Hotel Sóller’s guest rooms. There is a total of 53 rooms which are spread across two buildings and range from standard doubles to luxurious Imperial Suite. This 90 sq m suite has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room and large windows casting in beautiful natural light. Some of the other suites and deluxe rooms have terraces and balconies, so you can enjoy the views with your sweetheart, glass of cava in hand!
