When people think of Paris stylish boutiques, bustling cafés, world-class museums and charming streets easily come to mind. All of these are within arm’s reach from the chic and romantic Hotel Villa Madame, nestled on a quiet side street in the Saint Germain des Près area. The perfect location for taking in the best of Paris, the hotel also has a alluring design, artistic touches, excellent in-room amenities and sublime common areas. I recently had the pleasure of discovering this Rive Gauche haven which you can take a sneak peek in below.
Great Rive Gauche Location
Considered by many to be their absolutely favorite district, the small boutique hotel is located virtually at the heart of the Left Bank’s sixth district. It’s located right around the corner from the stoic Saint Sulpice church, within a short stroll to a myriad of shops and restaurants, four metro stations, The elegant Luxembourg Gardens, plus the area’s namesake, Saint Germain des Près church, which surrounded by some of the city’s most famous historic cafes. Slightly further afield, at a 15-20 minute walk, you can reach the Seine, the Louvre, the Musée d’Orsay, Notre Dame, the Pantheon, the Medieval Museum, the Rodin Museum and many other sites.
Flare of the Neighborhood
Contemporary yet classy, chic yet comfortable, the decor and overall feel of the Villa Madame are sophisticated with an artsy touch. Vintage photographs, colorful prints, metal sculptures and shelves full of books connect the hotel to the history of the neighborhood as the heart of intellectual and artistic Paris, especially in the early 20th century. The area’s streets have been well trodden by the likes of Picasso and his gang, the Lost Generation writers, Simone de Beauvoir and Jean Paul Sartre and you’ll find nods to this heritage throughout.
A Comfortable & Tranquil Oasis
With only 28 rooms, the four-star boutique hotel remains personable and quiet, made all the more thanks to its location on a little trafficked, one-way street, its excellent double-glazed windows and soundproof walls. Living in a building in Montmartre that has cardboard walls, this was something I sincerely appreciated. The rooms were so quiet, I had an impeccable night’s sleep in my large, comfortable king sized bed. I stayed in an executive double room and thus was treated to a plush sitting area, table for two and desk area. The rooms are tastefully decorated in beige tones with touches of bordeaux, olive green and taupe. I was particularly fond of the double hearts above the bed! The bathroom was equally luxurious, with both a rain shower and a large bathtub, which, on the rainy night I arrived, was welcomingly relaxing! The Hermes bath products and unique shower essence capsules added to the sumptuous pampering.
Cozy, Friendly Atmosphere
The common spaces are a highlight and act as homey extensions of the rooms. On winter nights, you can cuddle up by the fireplace with your chéri/e or with a good book. The courtyard garden, with its greenery, private nooks and seating areas, is the perfect place for a evening cocktail, weather permitting… or else a steamy chocolat chaud. A range of beverages and snacks are available during the day and evening and the generous breakfast with daily specials is the best way to get your day in Paris off to a great start.
The Villa Madame is a lovely option for couples, single travelers or business travelers looking for a sophisticated base in central Paris, with convenient métro access, steps away from excellent food shops and stylish boutiques and the beautiful Luxembourg Gardens. Rates start from 189 euros for a classic double, however, check their website for specials and their Agoda page for the best available prices.
