The rooms are distributed in cottage buildings which are well spaced out in a semi-circle around the main pavilion. Each room is named after an ancient Sigiriya king, which is a nice touch. They are accessed via a small bridge, something that also adds to the romantic allure. There are four categories of rooms: Superior King Deluxe, Superior Twin Deluxe, Premium Deluxe and Grand Deluxe. Superior King Deluxe and Superior Twin Deluxe rooms have a Jacuzzi tub, which is the ideal place to soak your weary bones (with your loved one) after scaling Sigiriya and Pidurangala Rock. Alternatively, you may want to splurge for a Premium Deluxe or Grand Deluxe room as these have their own private plunge pool and deck with sun beds. All rooms have a private veranda, an indoor sitting area, deluxe toiletries, bathrobes and slippers, flat screen TV with 50+ satellite channels and complementary tea/coffee facilities and non alcoholic beverages in the mini-bar.
Top Facilities, Food & Staff
Fear not if you didn’t book a room with a private plunge pool, all guests have access to the hotel’s large shared pool. Located behind the main pavilion, it has a cascading waterfall and is bordered by sun beds and umbrellas. You will likely stay in for diner on the romantically raised dining room. In the evenings, a copious and delicious set menu of local cuisine with fusion inspirations is served. If you have some free time, you can also relax and take in the beautiful views from next door in the comfortable King’s Lounge.
Lastly, a highlight was the friendly and welcoming staff, who go above and beyond to make sure you have a special stay. The management hires and trains young people of the area, thus helping the local economy and making your choice of staying at the hotel all the more meaningful!
