The ancient capital city of Kandy is one of the cultural highlights of Sri Lanka. In addition to its history and its current religious importance as the home of a Sacred Teeth of Buddha, Kandy is found in the most enchanting location; nestled on a plateau surrounded by verdant mountains. When I was looking for a place to stay in Kandy in other to make the most of its culture and natural beauty, I instantly fell for The Theva Residency. Join us as we journey up into the hills of Kandy to soak up the stunning views and chic style of this award-winning boutique hotel.
A Spectacular Mountain Location Overlooking Kandy
Perched on a hill in the Hantana mountain range, around a 15-minute drive up from Kandy, is the stylish Theva Residency. Encased in glass, the hotel’s modern design succeeds at blending in with its natural surrounds while offering guests the most sublime views across the valley, the city of Kandy and its lake. The hotel faces west, therefore its breathtaking vista is made all the more spectacular at sunset.
Fabulous Facilities, Bar & Restaurant
You can admire the setting sun from the hotel’s spacious panoramic terrace as you sip one of their award-winning cocktails. At any time of day you can further take in the views from the dreamy infinity pool or from the sunbeds next to it. Further relaxing can be achieved in the spa’s steam room and sauna. If the views weren’t enough of a distraction, the hotel also has an entertainment room, with a TV, pool table and board games.
As indicated above, the hotel has a notable bar with an impressive cocktail list, including several signature drinks which have won awards for their creativity. The restaurant is equally prestigious. Its chefs deftly prepare a wide range of both Sri Lanka and international cuisine. For the next day, I highly recommend pre-ordering their Sri Lanka breakfast, it was one of the best we had during our entire stay in the country.
Stylish Rooms with Exquisite Views
The hotel has four categories of rooms, all which feature vast windows overlooking the valley, a stylish decor with modern local Kandy art and top luxurious amenities. First category Deluxe rooms are smart, comfortable and have large windows. Superior rooms have the added advantage of private balconies. Suites have the privilege of being located in the more private corners of the hotel and have private Jacuzzis, making them ideal for a romantic holiday in Sri Lanka. Alternatively, you could go all out by booking the opulent top floor Penthouse room, whose walls are almost all covered in floor-to-ceiling windows, truly enveloping you in the area’s natural splendor.
The staff is excellent, always there in case you need anything from services at the hotel to travel assistance and sightseeing recommendations. The hotel itself is so exceptional that you may have trouble wanting to leave at all! So I recommend staying at least two, if not three nights, so you can simple sit back and take in the luxurious and gorgeous setting as well as do some exploring in the area.
