If you’re planning a trip the Kerala in southern India, you won’t want to miss including Thekkady. As an important spice producing area in India and with well-preserved forests, Thekkady offers a chance to slow down your pace and enjoy some stunning natural beauty. You can do this straight from your hotel room by staying at Greenwoods Resort. The 5-star boutique hotel is conveniently located right in Thekkady, however, is completely immersed in nature. It has wonderful rooms, some with private pools, excellent cuisine and a range of great in-house activities. Discover this lovely eco-friendly and romantic hotel below.
A Nature Hideaway in Thekkady
High up in the hills of Kerala, Thekkady is the gateway for exploring this gorgeous and polution-free part of India. The area’s rolling hills are dotted with spice plantations, pristine forests and the protected natural parks. Greenwoods Resort perfectly embraces this natural context due to its location but also its commitments to the environment. The hotel offers all the conveniences of town at the foot of its gates, yet it sits above town nestled within mature trees and greenery. Therefore, you can savor Thekkady’s splendid nature, complete with beautiful views and nature sounds, right from the property. There is a wonderful pool and various sitting areas around the grounds, including large hammocks that can fit two!
Luxury Accommodation in Synch with Nature
Guest rooms are spread out in various buildings around the grounds. There are six categories of rooms from Superior doubles to the opulent Presidential suite. For a romantic stay, I would suggest booking a Rithika room, the resorts “Honeymoon Villas,” two individual cottages tucked away amidst trees and flowers which have a private plunge pool and Jacuzzi. There are also two Indeevaram suites, more luxurious rooms also with a private pool with Jacuzzi. If you can afford a big splurge, then you could book the Presidential Suite, the resort’s top luxury suite spread over two floors. In addition to its top amenities and chic decor, it also has a balcony overlooking its private patio, pool and Jacuzzi.
Delicious Kerala Cuisine
The hotel might be located right in town, however, there’s no need to leave the resort for your meals thanks to its excellent restaurant. Guests start the day with a copious breakfast including a buffet or freshly made dosas and eggs. You’ll likely be out on an excursion over lunch, if not, they have an à la carte menu. Dinner is a real extravaganza which can start with the popular made to order salad bar, hot starters and a copious buffet of Kerala and Indian specialities as well as International dishes. You will not leave hungry! Ask them about arranging a private romantic dinner.
Cultural and Nature Activities
Speaking of cuisine, you can learn some local dishes during the resort’s daily cooking demonstrations. However, this is just one example of Greenwood’s activities. Its in-house cultural program includes dance performance, an educational video on the area, workshops on traditional dress and a fascinating tour of the property during which you learn about local spices, vegetation and see firsthand Greenwoods environmental initiatives (and meet their animals!). The resort’s activity desk can also arrange a wide array of activities in the area. At the edge of town is the renowned Periyar National Park where you can do nature trekking and boat cruises. You can also do spice plantation tours, jeep safaris and other tours. No matter what activities you decide to do, you will definitely have a memorable time in Thekkady by staying at Greenwoods Resort!
