I’m always thrilled to find out about new English theater and comedy events in Paris. The newest on the city’s evening agenda is One Night Stand. The monthly night is held at the gorgeous, historic Theater de L’Oeuvre showcases the big name and future stars of the American stand-up scene (we missed Jerry Seinfeld in October!). The next evening will be held on Monday October 30th and headline Jordan Rock, Chris Rock’s younger brother. Read on for more details about these cool events below and get ready to laugh!
The Théâtre de l’Oeuvre is a beautiful 336-seat theater tucked away on a small alley of the 9th arrondissement, near the Moulin Rouge and Montmartre. A hidden jewel, I’d actually never been so I’m looking forward to discovering the theater on October 30th.
Opened in 1892 it’s always been a place of creation and innovation so it’s not surprising it’s hosting these new comedy nights. The auditorium features plush red seats and its layout offers great visibility. Since it was designed as a concert hall, it also has fantastic acoustics, so those chuckles are going to be amplified on the monthly comedy nights! It makes for an excellent date night idea as there’s also a modern bar at the theater (pictured below) and a wide range of dining options in the vicinity.
The event was launched by French comic icon Gad Elmaleh with the objective of increasing the presence of American stand-up culture in Paris. The first One Night Stand show back in September saw Ryan Hamilton (a great Netflix success) take to the stage and it was graced in early October by both Jerry Seinfeld and Gad Elmaleh.
In his mid-20s, Jordan Rock has been gradually carving a space for himself on the American comedy scene, a challenging task in the shadow of his two brothers, Chris and Tony, also a comedian. Humor must run in the Rock family viens. Much younger than his brothers, Jordan is the next wave of comedians, his routine often revolving around current millennial topics like social media and online dating…. another reason why this would be a fun date night!
If you can’t attend Jordan’s show on October 30th, then mark your calendars for the next shows on November 27th and December 18th. They will also be announcing their 2018 line up shortly, so keep an eye on their website and Facebook page.
